Phonological awareness is the ability to hear the sound structure of spoken words and is the second best predictor of reading success after alphabet knowledge. In this session, we will talk about the levels of phonological awareness and how to provide instruction for this very important foundational literacy skill. Participants will also come away with ideas for how to work on each aspect of phonological awareness, including the lesser-known area of working with onsets and rimes.
